The Generosity Gap

Steve Lear and Paul Odegaard (Philanthropic Advisor at the Minneapolis Foundation) spoke on generosity at a Ham & Eggs Club breakfast on December 17th at Edina Country Club. They were welcomed to the event by Barry Kelner, Senior Trust Advisor at First Bank & Trust in Edina.

This premier breakfast club has hosted nearly 4,000 speakers in its 78-year history. Its members are a thoughtful and engaged group, interested in answering the perennial question, “Why are we here?” SteveLear.org believes it’s to help repair the world! One of the best ways to do that in this season of giving is to practice generosity.

Their unique presentation provided the audience with perspectives from both a financial advisor and a generosity advisor. Steve and Paul explained why closing the generosity gap is key to ushering in a new era of prosperity in the U.S. and shared effective strategies for accomplishing generosity goals. Together, they delivered an inspiring message encouraging the audience to prioritize generosity in the new year.

Their remarks sparked extensive discussion with the audience, who described the challenges of balancing family and community generosity, and confirmed the need for this type of planning.
