Building a Better Minnesota Through Civic Leadership
Steve Lear recently attended the 2026 Legislative Recap & Changemakers Program Celebration, hosted by Khalique Rogers, Executive Director of Catalyst for Systems Change (CSC).
The evening offered a reflection on Minnesota’s latest legislative session, highlighted the accomplishments of CSC’s Changemakers Program, and recognized the civic leaders, legislators, advocates, and partners who are helping to drive systems change in Minnesota.
CSC’s dynamic Changemakers program empowers youth, families, and communities to turn their lived experiences into legislative solutions. Program participants receive hands-on training in leadership development and policy advocacy to engage directly with state lawmakers at the Capitol. In addition to shaping legislative agendas, the program also provides young people with an opportunity to explore careers and develop mentors and networks.
Through this program, CSC also works with policymakers to help them understand the value of listening to and learning from the insights and priorities of young people on community issues, increasing civic engagement and community connection. The participating legislators talked about the Changemakers’ real impact on policy, while the students spoke about the positive difference CSC had made in their lives.
Steve found the evening to be a great opportunity to engage with people who are passionate about making a difference. The attendees represented multiple age groups, including students, middle-aged adults, and people over 65. He thought it was especially inspiring to see the lawmakers stay for the entire evening, interacting with each group. “I hope this event is a preview of the future, where multiple generations work together to solve problems.”
